But even though I think my NAS200 is a great little device to hack into, I have to admit I thought of several ways to make it more useful without the original 'brain'. If you simply want to change it into a docking station with eSATA, you will be happy to know that internally the hard disks are connected to the motherboard with standard SATA (L-type) connectors. So my technician made me scrap the project, since it was his opinion that these issued would be resolved in future firmware updates. We also got rid of the WRTG54 router. So even though I was once a totally committed Linksys user for everything from USB adapter to NAS200, I am now down to just a couple of switches by Cisco. So if I can make these NAS200s work as a docking station, I'll at least still have your name around. So what you're saying I think is that if I drill a couple of cable holes in the cabinet, I can wire direct from the back of the harness in the NAS200 cabinet and run the cable to the motherboard, the same as if the drive was in my machine. But keep the power supply for the fan on in the cabinet, and leave the NAS unit somewhere within striking distance of the computer.
